Only one day in Rio? It can be done — and done well. “A Day in Rio” is the itinerary I built to discover — or drink, as they say here — the juice of the Cidade Maravilhosa in eight hours, with a private car or van with driver and pick-up straight from your hotel.

The itinerary

  1. Christ the Redeemer — up on the Corcovado rack railway, 20 minutes through the forest, into the embrace of one of the 7 wonders of the modern world and a 360° view over the city.
  2. Santa Teresa — the bohemian quarter: historic houses, workshops, graffiti and the Largo dos Guimarães.
  3. The Selarón Steps — the story of the extravagant artist who covered them in tiles from all over the world.
  4. Sugarloaf — the cable car from Praia Vermelha via Morro da Urca: facing Christ, Guanabara Bay and Copacabana from an angle worthy of a painting.

In between, an unhurried buffet lunch — included, drinks excluded. With lunch the day comes to 9 hours.

In one day you will discover — or drink, as they say here — the juice of Rio.
