Vidigal is my home: the favela over the sea, squeezed between Leblon and the Dois Irmãos rock. And it is where I take anyone who wants to understand why I chose Rio — especially in the late afternoon, when the light drops and the city switches on.
How to get there
We start from Praça do Vidigal, the entrance to the community. From there we warm up the engines right away: the local mototaxi riders take us to the upper part — revitalised, with the football pitch and the park. On weekdays the afternoon tour leaves at 15:30 — just the right timing to be up top with the good light.

Where to look
In the upper part we stop at a bar with one of the most beautiful views in the city: Leblon, Ipanema and Sugarloaf in a single frame. Then we walk down, alley by alley, stopping where life happens. The grand finale is a panoramic terrace facing Christ the Redeemer.
I live here: I use passages only locals use, and you come with me.
